Georgia’s partners in bilateral formats “speak openly and freely” about the importance of the country's European prospects and “actively support” further integration of Georgia into the European family, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said on Monday following his meetings with European counterparts at the EU External Relations Council in Brussels.

The meetings give additional impetus to Georgia's integration into the European Union on the background of the support messages sent by the representatives of the partner countries to Georgia, Darchiashvili noted.

The Minister also focused on Georgia's expectations regarding the status of EU candidate and expressed hope that European partners would “definitely appreciate” the progress made by the country in recent years, the Foreign Ministry said.

Darchiashvili is holding meetings with the foreign ministers of EU member states, who are meeting in Brussels within the framework of the EU External Relations Council.

The session involves discussion of the EU accession questionnaire, handed in by the Georgian Government earlier this month. The security situation in the Black Sea region in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine is also being reviewed.
