A criminal proceeding has been launched against one individual for smuggling ₾26,644 ($8,808/€8,352) worth of medicines and two laptops across Georgia’s southern border, the Investigation Service of the Georgian Finance Ministry said on Wednesday.
In cooperation with the Customs Department of the Georgian Revenue Service, the state body identified the smuggling attempt through the Sadakhlo Border Crossing Point on the boundary with Armenia.
The Service said the arrested individual was smuggling the “illegal property,” intended for sale, using a concealed compartment in their vehicle.
The crime is punishable by between five to seven years of imprisonment.
