The Investigation Service of the Finance Ministry has arrested an Azerbaijani citizen for attempting to smuggle large amounts of goods from Georgia to Azerbaijan, the state body said on Wednesday.
The IS said the offender had attempted to smuggle medicines, computer equipment and food supplements worth ₾23,863 (about $7,888/€7,850) across the border by circumventing customs control on the Red Bridge, a crossing point between Georgia and Azerbaijan on the Tbilisi-Ganja road.
The offender is set to face up to five years in prison.
A criminal proceeding has been launched against one individual for smuggling ₾26,644 ($8,808/€8,352) worth of medicines and two laptops across Georgia’s southern border, the Investigation Service of the Georgian Finance Ministry said on Wednesday.
