Political leaders in the United States, including President Biden, have made it clear that Georgia is an important partner for the country, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan told Georgian press on Thursday.
Degnan told reporters her Government took Georgia's vulnerability in the context of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine seriously, and emphasised US support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
She also noted the United States help for the Georgian Defence Forces, security services and other state agencies over the past 30 years in efforts to strengthen the structures and improve their ability to defend the country’s borders.
The Ambassador added the current developments in the Black Sea region called for unity from Georgian political leaders and noted the US was pleased to see their work in the Parliament on issues including economy, education, healthcare and infrastructure.
She also made comments about the recent discussion around the matter of the health of the imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili in detention, urging the Georgian Government to take the recommendations of the Public Defender over the question into consideration.
