Czech Minister for European Affairs reaffirms support for Georgia’s EU bid

Georgia's application for European Union membership, and the ongoing procedures for the country completing the relevant questionnaire were discussed on Thursday in Prague in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and the Czech Minister for European Affairs Mikulas Bek.

Bek reaffirmed the “unwavering” support of the Czech Republic for Georgia's integration goals and the European Union enlargement policy, the Georgian foreign office said.

The meeting also underlined Georgia's “successful steps” in implementing reforms under the EU integration process, as an “important basis for further success in the process.”

Darchiashvili and Bek also focused on Russia's aggression in Ukraine and support from their Governments to the country, in addition to the matter of security environment in the Black Sea region.

The top Georgian diplomat thanked the Czech Government for its “practical support” to Georgia in the European integration process in various sectors.

During his visit to the Czech Republic, Darchiashvili will also meet his counterpart, and the Speaker of the Parliament.
