Defence ministers from the Black Sea coastal countries and Poland on Thursday discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine via a video call, the Turkish Defence Ministry said.

Presence of mined areas in the Black Sea in the wake of the conflict, and the general security in the region, were discussed following an invitation by Turkish authorities, which Ankara said led to “very efficient” talks.

Aside from the mines, the importance of cooperation in the Black Sea for peace, calm and stability was emphasised,” the Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said after the meeting.

The officials reviewed steps to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and deliver aid to Ukraine amid the war.

Turkish military diving teams have so far detonated three separate floating naval mines in the Black Sea, while Romania has also defused a stray mine in its waters since the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
