It is important to step up cooperation with NATO partner countries, including Georgia, the Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod said on Thursday ahead of the NATO ministers meeting.

The top Danish diplomat stressed the right of countries to “live in peace” within their internationally recognised borders, as the alliance meeting was convened on the backdrop of Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

It is important to us to step up the cooperation between NATO and Partner countries, which are: Georgia, Moldova, as well as Sweden, Finland and the Balkans,” Kofod said.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Wednesday "stepping up" support for alliance partners “under Russian pressure,” including Georgia, would be discussed at the meeting of foreign ministers on Wednesday and Thursday.

In his remarks, Stoltenberg reaffirmed the door of alliance membership remained open for aspiring states, adding Russia could not veto any applicant country’s membership drive.
