A week following Orthodox Easter on May 4-11 has been declared public  holiday in Georgia to curb the possible spread of the coronavirus.

The interagency commission led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has also given out the recommendation to employers to move to remote work.

The commission discussed the epidemiological situation in Georgia in a virtual meeting yesterday stressing the importance of public responsibility in maintaining health recommendations to avoid the so-called third wave of the virus.

The interagency commission calls on the Georgian citizens to:

  • Wear face masks
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Avoid large social gatherings

Earlier this week the transfer or concession of space for social and mass entertainment events was banned in Georgia against the backdrop of increased Covid-19 cases.

Georgia has reported a total of 506 new cases of Covid-19 after conducting 25,752 tests over the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Georgian health officials have warned of a potential third wave of coronavirus in the country if individuals refuse to receive the vaccine and act in line with recommendations.
