In total 16,359 marriages were registered in 2020, showing a 29.7% decrease year-on-year, while the number of divorces equalled 7,643 decreasing by 31.8% compared to the previous year, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
The average age of marriage for women was 28 and 30 for men.
The number of live births equalled 46,520 in 2020 of which 24,289 were boys and 22,231 girls. The number of live births decreased 3.7% year-on-year.
In 2020, the largest number of live births was recorded in Tbilisi (15,271) while the smallest was recorded in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Region (259).
The share of births for women aged less than 25 declined from 30% to 28.4%, while increased for women aged 40 years and older (from 3.8% to 4.4%), and women aged 25-39 (from 66.1% to 67.2%).
In 2020, the number of deaths increased by 8.3% in annual terms and totalled 50,537.
The largest number of deaths was recorded in Tbilisi (13,878) while the smallest – in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Region (764).
According to the 2020 data, infant mortality rate (per 1,000 live births) equalled 7.9% while the under five mortality rate totalled 9.3%.
