“Nearly 50,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses daily should be administered in Georgia in order to stop the pandemic”, Head of Infectious Diseases and AIDS Centre Tengiz Tsertsvadze said earlier today.

Tsertsvadze said that the recently launched 200 GEL pension bonuses is a good incentive for individuals over 60 years of age.

Tsertsvadze also noted that despite the alarming situation, additional restrictions or lock downs are not planned in the country.

Some European countries, including the Netherlands and Austria, have already announced additional restrictions, even though the majority of the population is fully vaccinated there. Additional restrictions will lead Georgia to another economic crisis”, said Tsertsvadze.

Georgian Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said yesterday that the epidemic situation in the country remains ‘tense’, but the increasing number of daily vaccinations ‘gives hope’.

Earlier in November Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that pensioners who are vaccinated against Covid-19 by January 1, 2022 will receive 200 GEL (about $63.29/€54.71) in pension bonuses.

Pensioners will receive the 200 GEL bonus after their first vaccine dose.
