Health official: Covid-19 in Georgia, worldwide, number one cause of death

Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze has stated that Covid-19 deaths in the past one week in Georgia and worldwide outnumbered the most common individuals causes of death such as cardiovascular diseases, ischemic heart diseases, stroke and tumors.
He said that coronavirus daily deaths in Georgia in the past two weeks have stood at 50-60 ‘which is a very high figure for a country with 3.7 million population.’
Gamkrelidze stated that Samgori field hospital in Tbilisi will admit Covid-19 patients only after two other field hospitals in Didi Digomi district (for 500 patients) and the other on Kavtaradze street (for 200 patients) in the capital are fully used.
The two field hospitals are currently used by 40-50 per cent (because of the shortage in the medical personnel),” Gamkrelidze said, adding that resident doctors may be called for field hospitals.

Gamkrelidze also stated that without the vaccination of individuals over 12 it will be difficult to defeat the pandemic.
Currently in Georgia people over 16 are eligible to be vaccinated.

57,840 remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia
6,891 individuals have died from the virus in Georgia so far.
1,010,096 individuals have received at least one dose of the vaccine in the country so far, of which 306,151individuals have been completely vaccinated.
Food facilities and bars will only be allowed to work in Georgia until 22:00 instead of 23:00, announces Chief of the Operational Staff of the Interagency Coordination Council Giorgi Gibradze. He added that strict control over the implementation of the imposed regulations in relation to food outlets will continue.

One more field hospital for 200 Covid-19 patients on Kavtaradze Street in Tbilisi has received its first patients yesterday, Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze stated earlier today.
A field hospital for 500 coronavirus patients in the Didi Digomi district of Tbilisi has received its first nine patients and will work in full capacity starting today, Georgian Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia announced.

Pregnant Covid-19 patients in Georgia will be able to use online obstetrician and gynaecologist services in the upcoming days, Georgian Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia announced earlier today. She also stated that the coronavirus Delta strain ‘is riskier for pregnant patients than for other individuals.’
Georgia has reported 4,031 new cases of coronavirus, 4,585 recoveries and 73 deaths in the past 24 hours. In total, 42,744 tests have been conducted around the country of which 25,358 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 17,386 were PCR tests. Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 536,202 cases of coronavirus, 473,502 recoveries and 7,101 deaths.
Public transport in all big cities of Georgia, which was scheduled to resume on September 4, will not work until September 13, while in-person studies have been postponed until October 4 in the country to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Inter-city transport will continue to operate. Between September 15 and October 4 at least all public schools, universities and vocational education facilities around the country will offer online lessons, while kindergartners, both public and private, will be closed.
