One more field hospital for 200 Covid-19 patients on Kavtaradze Street in Tbilisi has received its first patients yesterday, Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze stated earlier today.

The first field hospital for 500 coronavirus patients in the Didi Digomi district of Tbilisi received its first patients three days ago where 87 Covid-19 patients currently are undergoing treatment.

Minister Tikaradze said that there are no more places in the Georgian hospital sector, noting that the situation in this regard is ‘especially critical’ in Tbilisi.

We do not have places in hospitals and therefore we try to use all resources including field hospitals,” said Tikaradze.

Tikaradze also touched upon the issue of a fully vaccinated individual’s death and noted that it ‘should not be a cause for a panic’ as such cases are very rare and underlined that the deceased patient had chronic diseases.

Similar cases (death in fully vaccinated patients) are recorded across the world and such a case has [now] been reported in Georgia as well,” Tikaradze said.

Georgia has reported 2,354 new cases of coronavirus and 60 deaths in the last 24 hours.

A total of 56,753 people currently remain infected with Covid-19 out of which 1,557 patients are in critical condition and 361 of them are on artificial ventilation.
