Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated earlier today that another lockdown in Georgia would be ‘absolutely unjustified’ as the country has imported more than two million doses of coronavirus vaccine.
Georgian government head noted that the lockdown won’t defeat the virus and underscored that combating the virus is the only possible through vaccination.
He noted that the government will not stop the economy 'because it is the wrong way to go' and once again called on Georgian citizens to get vaccinated.
Too much false information is published through various platforms...We have to believe in the scientists and the science that created this unique tool and solution, such as a vaccine,” PM Garibashvili stated.
Coronavirus started to surge in Georgia after the regulations such as wearing face masks outdoors and curfew was lifted at the beginning of July.
Georgia has reported 3,670 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours and 76 people have died from the virus in the last two days.
Garibashvili said that more people are getting vaccinated in the last few days, noting that 20,000 people received the coronavirus vaccine yesterday.
Our task is to vaccinate three million people in the next two-three months which will allow us not to close the country again,” Garibashvili said.
A total of 564,691 vaccine doses are administered in Georgia and 178,077 people are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination against Covid-19 in Georgia is available with Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines.
