Eskerkhan Madiev into Olympics boxing quarterfinals, judoka Tato Grigalashvili eliminated

Georgia's Eskerkhan Madiev is in the quarterfinals of the boxing competition at the Summer Olympic Games, while Tato Grigalashvili, winner of the Doha World Judo Masters earlier this year, is out of judo competition in Tokyo.

Madiev won his men's 63-69 kg category boxing match at Kokugikan Arena in the Japanese capital on Tuesday, defeating Uganda's Shadiri Bwogi with a final score 3-1.

The 23-year-old will face Russian Olympic Committee's Andrei Zamkovoi in the quarterfinal on Friday, again to be hosted at the Kokugikan venue.

The Last 16 fixture was one of six on Tuesday that involved Georgian participation at the Olympics, with Grigalashvili featuring in the other five encounters.

The young judoka won Last 32 and Last 16 contests against Tajikistan's Ajmal Murodov and South Korea's Sungho Lee earlier in the day, before conceding the 81 kg quarterfinal to Saeid Mollaei of Mongolia.

Winning the repechage against Sharofiddin Boltaboev of Uzbekistan for proceeding to the bronze contest, the Georgian athlete was defeated by Belgium's Matthias Casse in the match for the medal.
