Georgian judoka Lasha Shavdatuashvili, 29, has won silver in a lengthy nine-minute match with one of judo's top fighters, Japan’s Shohei Ono, earlier today.
Shavdatuashvili is the only Georgian judoka (-73kg) who has won European, World and Olympic gold medals.

He has won three Olympic medals so far: gold at the 2012 Olympic Games, bronze in 2016 and now silver.
Earlier this year he won the world championship in judo.
Ono has won the world championship in judo three times and the 2016 Olympic Games.
Georgian legislators suspended session earlier today to watch the final match.
Georgian top officials later tweeted that they are ‘very proud of Shavdatuashvili.’

This is Georgia’s second medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
