Georgian judoka Lasha Shavdatuashvili claimed gold at the 2023 Paris Grand Slam in the -73 kg weight category of the tournament, repeating last year’s result, the Georgian Judo Federation said on Saturday.
The Olympic athlete, the World and European champion, Shavdatuashvili, defeated his Brazilian rival Daniel Cargnin in one minute with ippon and claimed a gold medal. In the semi-finals, the Georgian athlete defeated the Korean Heoncheol Kang in extra time.
Shavdatuashvili is one of the most successful judokas of the early 21st century, having won Olympic medals at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics and a dozen medals at the International Judo Federation World Tour, including four grand slams.
