The Georgian Ministry of Health held a meeting earlier today to review the current  epidemiological situation in the country.

The meeting resulted in a decision to create five groups which will consist of one infectious disease specialist, an emergency physician and a ministry official. Two groups will also have doctors with experience in fighting against the Covid-19.

One of the teams will go to the Adjara region, one will go to the Imereti region, while three of them will work in Tbilisi.

These groups will have different functions including conducting audits, evaluating weaknesses and strengths of hospitals, after which the ministry will react.

These mobile groups were created following a deterioration in the epidemiological situation in the last several weeks and dozens of deaths, said Director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital Tengiz Tsertsvadze.

An immediate response [to the more severe epidemiological situation] is needed. Georgia will feel the result in a week,” said Tsertsvadze.

He noted that now 35 hospitals are involved in the process of Covid-19 management, while at first only 11 hospitals were receiving patients with coronavirus.

Health Ministry Ekaterine Tikaradze met the groups created to fight against Covid-19 today.

[Georgia] is moving to a more active phase of management, and it is really important to involve practicing physicians more at the operational management level,” said Tikaradze.

She said that all the recommendations and guidelines would be discussed today and new rules will come into force based on practical experience.

Tsertsvadze noted that new knowledge in the fight against coronavirus is being accumulated in the world every day and it is necessary to update the guidelines accordingly. The new treatment guidelines for Covid-19 will be published soon.
