Georgia reports record 680 new coronavirus cases, Tbilisi on top of affected areas

Georgia has reported a record-high 680 new cases of coronavirus earlier today, with Tbilisi on the top of the list with 297 new infections. 

This is the first time over the past several weeks that Tbilisi has outnumbered the number of cases recorded in the country’s coastal region of Adjara.

The new 680 cases were recorded in:

  • Tbilisi - 297 cases 
  • Adjara region - 189 cases 
  • Imereti - 150 cases 
  • Shida Kartli - 12 cases 
  • Kvemo Kartli - 11 cases 
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti - 9 cases 
  • Guria - 6 cases 
  • Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti-3 cases 
  • Kakheti - 2 cases
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti - 1 case 

292 patients have recovered and seven have died in the country of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. 

Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze stated that the government has not made any decisions on imposing restrictions in Tbilisi to further curb the spread of the coronavirus.

We have discussed the issue, but no decision has been made so far,” Tikaradze said earlier today. 

She stated that the country is able to admit patients in hospitals for treatment. 

There are 3,500 beds in hospitals for Covid-19 patients, while 2,200 are undergoing treatment there. If it is necessary we are able to increase the number of beds,” Tikaradze said.  

Georgia has had 13,521 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020.

7,159 of the 13,521 patients have recovered, while 109 others have died.

6,253 patients remain infected with Covid-19 in the country.
