Coronavirus updates: 958 new cases, 214 recoveries, 4 deaths

A total of 958 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Georgia over the last 24 hours.

Marina Endeladze, head of the isolation department of Tbilisi Hospital of Infections Diseases said out of the 958 new cases:

  • 397 were reported in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi
  • 226 were reported in Adjara region
  • 232 were reported in Imereti
  • 27 were reported in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti
  • 20 were reported in Kvemo Kartli
  • 15 were reported in Mtskheta-Mtianeti
  • 14 were reported in Shida Kartli
  • 13 were reported in Kakheti
  • 8 were reported in Samtskhe-Javakheti
  • 6 were reported in Guria

Meanwhile, Endeladze told reporters today that 214 people have recovered and four have died.

Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze says that using a face mask is the most effective measure before the world has a vaccine or medicines against the virus. 

With the parliamentary elections approaching, the Central Election Commisison (CEC) has adopted a resolution laying out the sanitary guidelines to be observed on the election day. 

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has also stated that there are no grounds to postpone the October 31 parliamentary elections despite a sharp increase in the number of coronavirus cases.
