Georgia will receive between 600 - 700,000 COVID-19 vaccines as soon as an effective one becomes available.
Head of the National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze noted that Georgia will purchase the vaccines gradually.
Initially individuals from vulnerable groups will be vaccinated.
When the third phase of studies are completed and one of the 4-5 vaccines will be approved by the World Health Organisation, the European Medicines Agency, Georgia will receive 600-700,000 doses gradually. It will happen at the end of the year or the next year, when vaccination against COVID-19 will start all over the world”, said Gamkrelidze.
On October 8, 2020 Georgian Finance Minister Ivane Matchavariani said that the World Bank is ready to support Georgia in the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines as soon as an effective one becomes available.
The majority of the cases were recorded in the country’s coastal Adjara region and in the capital Tbilisi. 179 of 183 kindergartens in Tbilisi which have been closed due to the coronavirus since March 2020 have reopened earlier today. The personnel in the remaining four kindergartens or their relatives have tested positive for the coronavirus that is why the kindergartens remain closed. Georgia has had 12,272 cases of the coronavirus since February 26, 2020. Since then 6,538 patients have recovered, while 91 others have died. As of today 5,643 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia.
The World Bank is ready to support Georgia in the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines as soon as an effective one becomes available, announces Georgian Finance Minister Ivane Matchavariani after a video conference with Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bierde.
Once a vaccine for the coronavirus is approved, it will be available to the Georgian population, at first primarily to risk groups, said Head of the National Disease Control Centre Amiran Gamkrelidze earlier today.
The World Bank will provide $80 million to Georgia under the Fast Track COVID-19 Facility to mitigate the health and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, announces the World Bank.
Georgia has reported 569 new cases of coronavirus, 329 recoveries and nine deaths in the past 24 hours. The majority of the cases were reported in the coastal Adjara region of Georgia and in the capital Tbilisi. Georgia has had 12,841 cases of the coronavirus since February 26, 2020. Since then 6,867 patients have recovered, while 102 others have died. As of today 5,872 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia. More than 50 of the 5,872 patients are in critical condition.
The Georgian Ministry of Health held a meeting earlier today to review the current epidemiological situation in the country.
