Georgia reports record-high 218 new cases of coronavirus, 2 new deaths

Georgia has reported 218 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today which is the highest figure on record since the country confirmed its first case of the virus on February 26, 2020. 

Two individuals have died of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 22. 

Both patients who have died of Covid-19 were elderly individuals from Batumi, Adjara region of Georgia, who suffered from several underlying diseases.

The new 218 cases were recorded in: 

  • Adjara region - 137 cases 
  • Tbilisi - 47 cases
  • Imereti region - 26 cases
  • Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 6 cases
  • Guria - 2 cases 

Forty patients have recovered over the past 24 hours. 

As of today there are 16 critical patients in the country.

Georgia has had 3,913 cases of the coronavirus since February 2020. 

1,574 of the 3,913 patients have recovered, while 22 others have died.

As of today 2,317 people remain infected with Covid-19 in the country. 

The government currently has no plans to declare a national lockdown for a second time.
