Due to the large number of coronavirus tests being performed, the test results delay has been increased to about three days, announces Deputy Health Minister of Georgia Tamar Gabunia.

Gabunia said that there are cases when the test results need to be double-checked, for which additional time is required.

We have never had a seven- or eight- day delay, but as the number of tests performed for the virus has increased now it will take more time to get results. This could be three days of delay. Earlier we had test results ready in 24 hours", she said.

Gabunia added that people waiting for test results should remain in self-isolation.

Georgia has reported 218 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today which is the highest figure on record since the country confirmed its first case of the virus on February 26, 2020.

Meanwhile, two individuals have died of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 22.
