Georgia reports 12 new cases of coronavirus, 158 remain infected with COVID-19

Georgia has reported 12 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 1,058.
Five of the 12 new patients had contact with infected individuals, two are new cases from Gachiani, central Georgia, two other cases are imported,while the source of infection in three new patients is unidentified.
911 of the 1,058 patients have recovered, while 16 others have died.

As of today 158 people remain infected with COVID-19 in the country.
Georgia reported 24 new cases of the coronavirus yesterday which was the highest figure since June.
Health officials say that the increase was because of mass testing of people in the Gardabani municipality of eastern Georgia.
10 of the 24 new patients were from Gardabani municipality.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated earlier today that additional restrictions may be imposed on the municipality if there is the necessity.
He said that open markets will have to adhere to strict rules as many of the Gardabani inhabitants sell agricultural products in Tbilisi.
Georgia reported its first case of the coronavirus on February 26, 2020.
Since then more than 174,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus.
Paris, Riga, Munich are exceptions
Regular international flights will not resume in Georgia until August 31, announces the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, however Paris, Riga and Munich will be exceptions. Air France will carry out two flights a week starting early August from Paris Charles de Gaulle and Tbilisi International Airports and German airline Lufthansa will carry out flights two times a week, linking Tbilisi to Munich.
Georgia has reported 24 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today which is the highest figure since June. The source of infection in 22 cases of the 24 new cases has been identified. Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze said that 10 new cases are from Gardabani municipality of eastern Georgia, five new patients had contact with infected individuals, while seven new cases are imported (five are truck drivers). “The state agencies are trying to identify the source of infection in the remaining two patients. The figure gives no reason to panic. However, we should act very cautiously,” Gamkrelidze said.
Georgia is holding negotiations with British-Swedish pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and public–private global health partnership Gavi to receive the coronavirus vaccine if and when it becomes available, head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier today. He said that the vaccine developed by the UK Oxford Group, in partnership with AstraZeneca, is ‘enormously promising.’
Georgia is opening its borders for travellers from five countries, announces PM Spokesman Irakli Chikovani after a meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council today. The government of Georgia is also negotiating with international airline companies to resume direct flights in Georgia. So far an agreement has been reached with Lufthansa which will start flights between Munich and Tbilisi starting August.

Roads to and from the village have been blocked by police and drones are being used to monitor the area. About 1,000 locals of Karajalari village have already been tested for the coronavirus. The Georgian National Centre for Disease Control has begun mass testing of people for the coronavirus at Lilo open market in the outskirts of Tbilisi where many Gardabani inhabitants work as vendors.

Health agencies have identified 13 new cases of COVID-19 in Georgia on Saturday, with the Karajalari village of the southern Gardabani municipality still under quarantine to contain a rise in reported cases since the last few days.
Georgia has reported 14 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the number of active infections to 195.
Georgia has reported six new cases of the coronavirus earlier today which is the decrease in the number of cases compared to the last week.Most of the new cases are connected with Gardabani municipality of eastern Georgia and the Lilo open market in Tbilisi where many of Gardabani inhabitants work as vendors. The Karajalari village in Gardabani municipality remains under quarantine.As of today 199 people remain infected with COVID-19 in the country.
