Georgia reports 24 new cases of coronavirus, highest figure since June

Georgia has reported 24 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today which is the highest figure since June.
The source of infection in 22 cases of the 24 new cases has been identified.

Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze said that 10 new cases are from Gardabani municipality of eastern Georgia, five new patients had contact with infected individuals, while seven new cases are imported (five are truck drivers).
The state agencies are trying to identify the source of infection in the remaining two patients. The figure gives no reason to panic. However, we should act very cautiously,” Gamkrelidze said.

More than 700 residents of Gardabani municipality, which is inhabited mostly by ethnic minorities, were tested for the coronavirus yesterday as more than 10 inhabitants of the municipality have tested positive for the coronavirus over the past several days.
Director of Tbilisi Hospital of Infectious Diseases Marina Ezugbaia says that the increase in the figure is ‘absolutely normal’ as hundreds of people were tested for the virus yesterday.
Ezugbaia stated that the figure will decrease again in the following days.

She said that many of the new patients tested positive for the virus while in quarantine.
Since February 26, 2020, when the country reported its first case of the coronavirus, Georgia has had 1,073 cases.
907 of the 1,073 patients have recovered, while 16 others have died.
As of today 150 people remain infected with COVID-19 in the country.
Georgia is holding negotiations with British-Swedish pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and public–private global health partnership Gavi to receive the coronavirus vaccine if and when it becomes available, head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier today. He said that the vaccine developed by the UK Oxford Group, in partnership with AstraZeneca, is ‘enormously promising.’
The inhabitants of Karajala and Karataklia villages in Gardabani municipality will undergo mandatory PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing for the coronavirus, as 23 inhabitants of the villages have tested positive for the virus over the last 24 hours.
Georgia has reported 10 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 1,049. 903 of the 1,049 patients have recovered, while 16 others have died. As of today 130 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. Three of the 10 new cases are imported (one is a truck driver), five individuals had contact with infected people, while the remaining two do not know how they contracted the virus.
Ten more Georgian soldiers have tested positive for the coronavirus in Afghanistan and have been transported home to Georgia by the German Air Force earlier today. Twenty-eight other Georgian soldiers in the NATO Resolute Support Mission tested positive for the virus on July 10. Eight of the 28 soldiers, who underwent treatment in Gori hospital of central Georgia, have already recovered. The Georgian Defence Ministry says that all the 38 soldiers belong to one cluster that an Afghan personnel was the source of the infection.
Georgia has reported 12 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 1,058. Five of the 12 new patients had contact with infected individuals, two are new cases from Gachiani, central Georgia, two other cases are imported,while the source of infection in three new patients is unidentified. 911 of the 1,058 patients have recovered, while 16 others have died.
Georgia has reported six new cases of the coronavirus earlier today which is the decrease in the number of cases compared to the last week.Most of the new cases are connected with Gardabani municipality of eastern Georgia and the Lilo open market in Tbilisi where many of Gardabani inhabitants work as vendors. The Karajalari village in Gardabani municipality remains under quarantine.As of today 199 people remain infected with COVID-19 in the country.
