Georgian leaders send condolence to families of those who died in Batumi fire

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili landed in Batumi, Adjara from Brussels yesterday as a fire broke out in Leogrand Hotel killing 11 people.

In a special statement released late last night PM Kvirikashvili said "this tragedy is hard for everyone”. Sending condolences to the families of those who have died in fire, Kvirikashvili thanked fire-fighters for saving hundreds of others’ lives.

All the relevant services have been mobilised to find out the exact reason of the fire. This will be followed by an adequate response and everyone who has any fault in this tragedy, will be punished”, Kvirikashvili said.

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said he is horrified with the tragedy that happened in Batumi.

Expressing condolences, he wished a speedy recovery to those who have been injured, thanked fire-fighters for risking their lives and expressed hope the investigation will soon determine the causes.

Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia had left to Batumi immediately as the fire broke out in Leogrand Hotel last evening. He said an investigation is now underway under article #243 of the Criminal Code that considers violation of fire-safety standards.
