Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has recalled the recent hotel tragedy in Batumi which  claimed 11 lives in fire and highlighted the importance of preventing such accidents and the strong control of safety systems in various buildings.

We should exclude any wrongdoings in the construction process,” Kvirikashvili said.

Any investment is crucial, but the lives of our people are more important,” the PM said.

In addition to prevention the PM stated that all existing buildings, especially educational institutions, hotels and similar buildings with many people must be checked for safety.

The inspection must take place as soon as possible,” the PM said.

Kvirikashvili stated that next year’s budget envisages 20 million GEL for the country’s emergency service, which includes expenses for better equipment.

Of course, it is impossible to prevent all fires. However, we should be well prepared for such situations,” Kvirikashvili said.

The fire in a five-star Leogrand Hotel in Batumi late on November 24 claimed lives of 10 Georgian and one Iranian citizen, leaving 21 others injured.
