The Emergency Management Service of Georgia demands the suspension of the operations of the former Leogrand Hotel in the Black Sea town of Batumi which is now operating as Welmonde Hotel and Casino.

Specialists carried out a technical inspection in the building three times in 2018. 43 recommendations were issued, the majority of which remained unfulfilled.

Eleven people have died and 21 injured during the fire in Leogrand hotel in 2017. Ten of them were Georgian citizens and one was Iranian.

The fire broke out as there was no smoke alarm systems in the hotel last year. Today, the Emergency Management Service of Georgia claims that the hotel still does not have the relevant safety standards, as it is not equipped with the automatic fire and smoke alarms systems to avoid tragic consequences.
