A fire that broke out in a state-owned building in the central district of Aghmashenebeli in Tbilisi late at night has been localised.

Representative of the Emergency Management Service Mamuka Kirimelashvili said 21 fire-fighting brigades have been mobilized to extinguish the fire.

Over a hundred fire-fighters were mobilised to put out the fire that had spread over some 1,500 sq.m.

Local governor Zurab Chikviladze said the building was empty and no one has been injured.

Unfortunately the fire broke out in one of the significant buildings in Tbilisi, which is a cultural monument”, Chikviladze said.

He also said the reason for the fire is yet unknown, but an investigation of the case is underway.

According to preliminary information, the fire had spread on the roof of the building.
