Dozens of shopkeepers have suffered major financial loss after a fire burned through a shopping mall in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi overnight.

150 fire-fighters and 35 fire-fighters have been mobilised in front of City Heart shopping centre to extinguish the fire that had spread over some 3,000 sq.m.

Fire has been practically localised… Great thanks to the fire-fighters”, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said last night.

According to preliminary information, the fire spread on the third floor.

The head of the Emergency Management Service Giorgi Mghebrishvili said an investigation is currently underway to find out what caused the fire.
