Municipal Elections 2017: 36.71% voter turnout by 5pm

In Georgia 1,262,809 voters throughout the country cast their vote in the Municipal Elections by 5pm this afternoon.

Voter turnout was 36.71 percent at 5pm - nine hours after polling stations opened across the country, said the Central Election Commission (CEC) in its latest media update.

The highest voter turnout was evident in Georgia's Racha-Lechkhumi region (53.4 percent) and the lowest in Shida Kartli region (31.5 percent).

The voter turnout by 5pm was the following:

  • Tbilisi – 327,308 (34.7 percent)
  • Imereti – 204,272 (38 percent)
  • Samegrelo- Zemo Svaneti – 133,289 (38.8 percent)
  • Kvemo Kartli – 129,927 (33.1 percent)
  • Kakheti – 115,673 (38.1 percent)
  • Adjara – 110,400 (36 percent)
  • Shida Kartli – 74,458 (31.5 percent)
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti – 62,980 (43.3 percent)
  • Guria – 53,722 (48.9 percent)
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 32,143 (37.2 percent)
  • Racha-Lechkhumi – 18,637 (53.4 percent)

Today, October 21, is election day in Georgia, when the country will vote for 2,058 members of 64 city councils (sakrebulo) and 64 municipal mayors.
