Municipal Elections 2017: Polls closed, votes being counted

Voting for Municipal Elections has finished across Georgia. The process of counting votes and tabulating results is now underway. 

All polling stations closed at exactly 8pm this evening. The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia released latest voter turnout figures a short time ago and the data showed 1,569,992 people voted today. This was 45.64 percent turnout.

The highest voter turnout was evident in Georgia's Racha-Lechkhumi region (60.2 percent) and the lowest in Kvemo Kartli region (40.7 percent).

The voter turnout by 8pm was the following:

  • Tbilisi – 409,763 (43.4 percent)
  • Imereti – 249,636 (46.5 percent)
  • Samegrelo- Zemo Svaneti – 162,614 (47.3 percent)
  • Kvemo Kartli – 159,825 (40.7 percent)
  • Kakheti – 146,023 (48.1 percent)
  • Adjara – 138,120 (45 percent)
  • Shida Kartli – 97,161 (41.2 percent)
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti – 79,912 (55 percent)
  • Guria – 64,372 (58.5 percent)
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 41,562 (48.1 percent)
  • Racha-Lechkhumi – 21,004 (60.2 percent)

Today, October 21, is election day in Georgia, when the country voted for 2,058 members of 64 city councils (sakrebulo) and 64 municipal mayors.
