Russia, US, Italy largest remittance senders in August 2017

Georgia received $121.8 million from abroad in August 2017, while remittances leaving Georgia totalled $19.4 million, says the National Bank of Georgia.

Last month Georgia received 15.1 percent more in remittances than in August of 2016.

Russia ($40.3 million), the United States ($12.8 million) and Italy ($12.7 million) were the largest remittance senders in August 2017.

Overall, the vast majority (92.5 percent) of all money transfers from abroad came from 14 countries.

After Russia, the US and Italy, other countries regularly sending money transfers to Georgia in August 2017 included:

  • Greece – $11.5 million
  • Israel - $10.8 million
  • Turkey - $9.8 million
  • Spain - $3.5 million
  • Germany – $2.9 million
  • Ukraine - $2.2 million
  • United Kingdom - $1.4 million
  • Kazakhstan -$1.3 million
  • Azerbaijan - $1.3 million
  • France - $1.2 million
  • Canada - $1 million
