Georgia receives $125m in remittances in September 2017

Georgia received $124.4 million from abroad in September 2017, while remittances leaving Georgia totalled $19 million, says the National Bank of Georgia.

Last month Georgia received 24.2 percent more in remittances than in September of 2016.

Russia ($40.7 million), Italy ($13 million) and Greece ($13 million) were the largest remittance senders in September 2017.

Overall, the vast majority (92.9 percent) of all money transfers from abroad came from 14 countries.

After Russia, Italy and Greece, other countries regularly sending money transfers to Georgia in September 2017 included:

  • United States – $12.6 million
  • Israel - $11.6 million
  • Turkey - $9.5 million
  • Spain - $3.1 million
  • Germany – $3.1 million
  • Ukraine - $2.2 million
  • United Kingdom - $1.6 million
  • Kazakhstan -$1.5 million
  • France - $1.2 million
  • Azerbaijan - $1.1 million
  • Canada - $1.1 million
