A Georgian man has been detained in occupied Tskhinvali territory while attending his mother-in-law’s funeral at the village cemetery located near the de facto occupation line.

It is understood 42-year-old Gia Solashvili from Karkusaani village was at the cemetery when he was approached by armed Russian occupational forces and was detained for allegedly crossing the administrative border.

The current whereabouts of the man is not known.

Georgia’s Interior Ministry informed the European Union’s Monitoring Mission to Georgia about the detention.

Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili commented the fact and said this was a "violation of fundamental human rights” and Russia had ignored "all norms of international law”.

Georgian authorities noted this was the sixth case of a Georgian citizen being captured in the conflict zone during the past two weeks.
