A Georgian man has been illegally detained by Russian border guards, after he allegedly crossed the administrative boundary line (ABL) while he was grazing cattle in Gori village.

Amiran Durglishvili, 60, was from Bershueti, a borderline village in the Gori district of Georgia’s Shida Kartli region. His family reported the man was detained by Russian border guards yesterday.

Bershueti village locals said Durglishvili was peacefully shepherding cattle and he did not violate the so-called administrative border with de facto Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.

Meanwhile the man’s family said he was taken from the village, which is located on Georgian-controlled territory near the ABL with Tskhinvali.

A member of the man’s family saidDurglishvili had been taken to the Chinagari Russian military base.

According to the report by Georgia’s Foreign Ministry 184 illegal detentions for "illegally crossing the border” took place in 2011 on Georgia’s borderline villages with breakaway Tskhinvali.

A total of 301 detentions were reported in 2012; 441 detentions in 2013; and 307 detentions in 2014. Meanwhile Russian statistics noted in the first three months of this year 550 people were detained for the same reason.

Georgia’s Foreign Ministry presented its report on the human rights situation in Georgia’s two Russian-occupied regions (Abkhazia and Tskhinvali) on June 1.
