Russian forces continue installation of barbed wires in the cross border villages

Local residents of the villages are concerned because of the barbed wires and border signs’ installation.

Russian forces continue installation of border signs and barbed wire fences at the de-facto South Ossetia villages of Plavi and Plavismani in the Gori municipality of central Georgia, .

At this time, the de-facto border signs and barbed wires are already installed and is preventing local inhabitants from cultivating their lands at the rural outskirts. Also, Plavi residents are unable to move north of the village where the cemetery is located.

As the Russian media reports, the de-facto border of South Ossetia runs through the center of the village.

Local residents of the villages are concerned because of the barbed wire and border signs installation. One of the residents, Giorgi Kapanadze told journalists that the territory was not even part of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast and they always belonged to the collective farm in the Plavi village.

"If the Russian military will continue installation of the artificial borders, residents living in this part of the village will be seriously endangered, he said.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs Information and Analytics Department has already confirmed the installation of the de-facto border signs and barbed wire in the adjacent area in the villages Plavi and Plavismani.

The Working Group on Prevention and Response of Georgia has discussed the barbed wire fence installation in Georgian villages across the occupation line and the arrest of Georgian citizens by the Russian Army for crossing the mentioned line in the Gori municipality village of Ergneti.

"The Georgian government will raise the issue with Russians about the village Didi Khurvaleti (Gori Region), where the Russian Army has installed barbed wire and blocked the way to the cemetery and Georgian Church. Davit Sujashvili, the Head of the Internal Affairs Ministry's Information and Analysis Department said after the meeting on fencing issues.
