European Union (EU) Ambassador to Georgia Janos Herman is responding to the political developments in Georgia and says he is confident in Georgia’s European integration.
Yesterday Herman met with former Defence Minister Irakli Alasania, who was dismissed by the country’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on November 4.
After the meeting Herman released a statement that said he believed Georgia was firm in its European integration.
"I see Georgia’s unflagging European orientation. We have to be oriented on the future, Georgia needs to move forward on the path of getting closer with the EU in a sense for Georgia to be a stable and democratic state,” he said.
"I want to say what has been announced by EU representatives throughout the last period that we are monitoring [the] recent investigation against high officials. The common picture is that Georgia has a steady political course towards Europe and we are intensively working with the Georgian Government,” Herman said.
He noted that his meeting with Alasania had been organised two weeks ago when Alasania was still the Georgian Minister of Defence.
