After a two-month investigation, the Interior Ministry has opened an investigation into two individuals in Tbilisi yesterday for drug trafficking.

A 26-year-old woman and 23-year-old man have been charged with distribution of narcotics online.

Drug trafficking via the internet remains the most difficult challenge, the Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili said at today’s briefing.

"The police secretly observed the routes of the accused and studied their tactics, as well as finances. Several test purchases were also made,” Mezvrishvili said explaining that those who would like to purchase drugs communicated with the offenders via an online application.

"After ordering the wanted amount and type of drugs the clients would receive confirmation with a bank account number and amount of money. As soon as the offenders would receive the money the clients would receive a photo of the purchased drugs including the place and address of it,” she added.

According to the investigation, the places where the offenders would hide the drugs for their clients included entrances of residential buildings and public places in different districts of Tbilisi.

While checking the car of the accused woman, the police  found 43 packages of drugs ready for clients. 19 other packages were also found at different places around the city.
