The National Bank of Georgia will issue special collector coins to mark the national football team's historic qualification for the upcoming European Football Championship, the body said on Friday.
The NBG said it had collaborated with the Georgian Football Federation on design concepts that incorporate symbols of the team, inscriptions in Georgian and English, and information on denomination and year of issue.
It also said one side of the coins featured the team logo - shown in colour on the silver version - along with a visual of St. George and the motto "I am Georgia".
On the flip side of the coin, the team's jersey design - also in colour for the silver coin - is shown.
Acting Governor Natia Turnava said the collector coins would “serve as a permanent reminder of the Georgian national team and their players' achievements”.
The coins will be available in both gold and silver denominations of $1.75, with the production run to end in late 2024.
The national team qualified for a major international tournament with the defeat of Greece in the Euro 2024 playoff final following a penalty shootout, after extra time ended in a goalless draw at Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi.
Their qualification has also been marked by a new stamp featuring the national football team ahead of the kick-off of the Championship this week.
