Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Georgian Deputy Economy Minister, on Friday said hosting the Snowboard Junior World Championship in Georgia’s Gudauri resort was a “new recognition” of the resort and the country’s mountain-skiing potential.
The Ministry of Economy said Kvrivishvili highlighted the importance of the Championship for the country’s mountain-ski resorts, namely for Gudauri.

She said Georgia had “successfully” hosted FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships last year in the country’s winter resort of Bakuriani and qualifying rounds for Freeride World Tour Pro, a series of sporting events for freeskiers and snowboard freeriders, which was held in February.
The Deputy Minister noted Gudauri being chosen as the host country of the Championship was “another victory”, and added it was a “recognition” of the work done by the Georgian Government in updating mountain-ski infrastructure in the resort.
We are sure the World Cup will be another outstanding event that will be successfully held by our country, which will have a positive impact on stimulating the tourism potential of our country”, Kvrivishvili said.
We expect to see even more international and domestic travellers to Georgia's mountain resorts in the coming years, which will certainly have a positive impact on the development of our country's economy and will help strengthen every entrepreneur employed or involved in the tourism industry”, she added.
The Championship has officially opened earlier today in Gudauri, where 80 athletes from 18 countries will compete over the weekend.
The competition features athletes under 21 from Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, the United States and Georgia.
