Irakli Beraia, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Defence and Security Committee, on Monday met Robin Dunnigan, the United States Ambassador to the country, to discuss directions of strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The Georgian Parliament cited Beraia as saying the role of the US in strengthening Georgia’s security and defence capabilities was “special”, while the meeting discussed its support in defence and security.

The strategic partnership between the two countries is of great importance not only for the protection of the national interests of the countries but also for the strengthening of regional security as a whole. Further deepening and strengthening of these relations with the US is of special interest to us”, the lawmaker said.

In her comments, Dunnigan noted the security ties between the countries were the “strongest pillars” of the strategic partnership, and discussed how her Government could continue to support Georgia's NATO integration aspirations and the process of the country's accession to the European Union.
