Georgian Interior Minister, US Ambassador discuss “fruitful” ties, strengthening law enforcement ties

“Fruitful” relations between Georgia and the United States and a further strengthening of their cooperation in law enforcement were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and Robin Dunnigan, the new US Ambassador to the country.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said Gomelauri congratulated Dunnigan on the start of her diplomatic mission in the country, while also expressing his gratitude to the Ambassador for the US Government’s contribution in developing the capabilities of the Ministry.

Gomelauri highlighted the priority directions of his office within the cooperation, including combating organised crime, drug and human trafficking, violence against women and domestic violence, fight against discrimination and protection of state borders.

The parties expressed hope the strategic partnership and bilateral cooperation would be further deepened through joint efforts.

The Ministry added Sarah Rupert, the Director of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Bureau Office in Georgia, and James Ullin, the US Embassy Regional Security Service Officer, also attended the meeting.
