About 40 representatives of ski resorts from seven countries on Wednesday reviewed the infrastructure in the Georgian ski resort of Bakuriani during the ongoing Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in the location, the Georgian Economy Ministry said.
The body said the visitors were introduced to the infrastructure set up by Georgian authorities for the global event, and heard about the country’s experience in developing ski infrastructure over the recent years.
Irakli Burchuladze, the head of the Georgian Mountain Trails Agency, said the delegates “could not hide their astonishment at how the country was able to arrange such a high-level infrastructure in such a short period of time” to host the international tournament.
The trip was organised by Doppelmayr, an international manufacturer in the field of ski infrastructure, with the engagement of MTA. Photo: MTA press office.
Recalling his previous visit to Bakuriani in 2021, Rinat Abdrakhmanov, the Director General of the Kazakh Shymbulak resort development, said he was “surprised” by the developments and the “high-level organisation” of the event.
Georgia was granted the right to host the World Championships in 2018, with the tournament running between February 16 and March 5 and involving 700 athletes from 42 countries.
The Georgian Ski Federation and MTA, along with the Georgian Government, have been involved in the organisation of the Championships.
