The quality of ski tracks, infrastructure, and relevant equipment in Georgia’s ski resort of Bakuriani, arranged for the Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships, is “identical” to European standards, Irakli Burchuladze, the Director of Georgian Mountain Trails Agency told agenda.ge on Saturday.

Burchuladze said the opening of the World Championships, making the country “proud” of this day, would be held later today with a concert of Georgian performers.

The International Ski Federation has been fully satisfied with the work done, with all required standards maintained, Burchuladze noted, adding the official training in different disciplines of the tournament “went well” and the slopes of the mountains were “ready in every way”.

The Director of the Agency also announced that the first final of the Championships, running through March 5, would be held on Sunday and noted the Champions Village would be hosting visitors.

Bakuriani was granted the hosting rights of the tournament by a FIS congress in 2018. The competition is being held with the support of the Georgian Government and organised by the Mountain Trails Agency and the Georgian Ski Federation.
