Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday highlighted Georgia’s progress on its European integration path and the latest “positive report” by the European Commission on the country’s alignment with EU laws at the meeting with Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Government Administration said.
The implementation process of the 12-point conditions, outlined by the European Union last year for granting Georgia the membership candidate status, was also discussed in the meeting held on the sidelines of the ongoing Munich Security Conference.
The head of the Georgian Government stressed the majority of the priorities set had already been fulfilled, with only several legislative acts sent to the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe for recommendations.
The “next step” of the country on its European integration path is to receive the candidate status, Garibashvili pointed out, adding the EU Commission's latest report “positively evaluated Georgia’s efforts for legislative and institutional compatibility with the bloc and once again promoted the country as a leader for sectoral reforms”.
In his final note on domestic and foreign security challenges, Garibashvili reaffirmed his Government's commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
