Bulgarian and Romanian ambassadors to Georgia, Vesselin Valkanov and Răzvan Rotundu, on Wednesday vowed their governments’ support for granting the European Union membership candidate status to Georgia.
In his remarks over the matter, Valkanov noted Bulgaria had “always supported” Georgia, and further pointed out “we want our friend Georgia to be by our side”.
He stressed the role of merit on the European integration path as being “important”, and noted the Georgian Government had “immediately” drawn up an action plan for the implementation of the nine steps set out by the European Commission for the status.
In his turn, Rotundu said the Romanian Government was supporting the granting of EU membership status to the country.
The Romanian diplomat stressed the meeting of the European Council next week, set to decide on the status, needed to make a unanimous decision on the matter.
He also highlighted the importance of the work on the nine recommendations set out by the Commission.
