Georgia’s Special Investigation Service on Tuesday said it had arrested an employee of the Special Penitentiary Service on charges of domestic violence.
The agency said its investigation had established the offender had physically assaulted and injured his wife during an argument at their residential house in Rustavi, a city south-east of capital Tbilisi, last week.
The perpetrator was arrested and charged following “urgent investigative actions”, it added.
The Service also said the investigation was still ongoing, with the crime punishable by up to three years of imprisonment.
