A special protection programme will protect victims and witnesses of crimes across Georgia and ensure their safety during investigations, the country’s Special Investigation Service announced on Wednesday.
The body revealed the initiative had come into force throughout the country, with law enforcement set to use the programme in their engagement with possible victims in criminal cases where they or family members may be subjected to physical or psychological pressure.
Victims will be assigned personal protection, with law enforcement also responding to their alerts. They will also be assigned temporary accommodation if needed.
The Service said the initiative had been designed to ensure trust from victims and witnesses towards investigative services without fear of repercussions from potential offenders.
