A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained on Monday by the Russian-controlled occupation forces near central Georgia’s Gori municipality has been released, the State Security Service of Georgia said on Monday.

The Service said the incident had taken place near the village of Zemo Artsevi on the territory of the Russian-occupied central Georgian region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

The body said it had responded to the incident by activating the hotline operated for information exchange on developments along the occupation line and informing international partners.

The SSS also said the Government and its international partners were continuing to “work actively” to ensure release of all citizens from detention in occupied regions of Georgia.
