A Georgian citizen illegally detained by the occupation forces in the occupied territory in central Georgia has been released, the State Security Service said on Tuesday.

The state body said the hotline operated for information exchange along the occupation line and “all mechanisms” at the disposal of the Government had been used to ensure the release of Giorgi Darchiashvili.

His immediate release was also “actively discussed” at the meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, a platform facilitating discussions between the de facto authorities and the Georgian Government, in the village of Ergneti near the occupied region, the body added.

The Service said the Government, together with its international partners, continued to “work actively” to ensure the release of other Georgian citizens illegally detained in the Russian-occupied territories.
